ASEAN Begins Environment Meeting in Kalimantan

Five ASEAN environment ministers will start a meeting to discuss forest fires and hot spots in the region in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan today (30/4).
Spokesman for the Indonesia Environment Ministry Masnellyarti said Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta will explain Indonesia's strategy in handling forest fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra which often affected nearby countries.
Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei Darussalam, according to Masnellyarti will be represented in the conference.
Indonesia accounts for most of forest fires in the region with around 151 identified hot spots. Masnellyarti said hot spots also found in Malaysia and Thailand but Indonesia has far more hot spots than those found in the two countries.
